Lately I’ve been thinking about the immense opportunity this platform presents both reader and author. Substack is where all the good stuff is now.
Magazines, on the whole, mostly suck. Monocle is still great, so is The New Yorker. There are a great number of niche publications I love - Luncheon, Racquet, Yolo Journal. But on the whole, I’m getting the best information from this platform.
This new series is a continuation in some ways of my “Five Easy Pieces” series, but in a way that is a bit simpler and more natural. It’s just a collection of the tabs I’ve kept open all week - the things I want to come back to, read more about.
Maybe they’ll speak to you, as well. Happy Friday!
The Hasty Bake grill
I read about this grill in a recent Times article about entertaining with Mickey Ashmore, the founder of Sabah. (These are my son’s favorite shoe.) I love its bulky simplicity. Right now I’m a propane guy out of sheer laziness, but this is something I’m bookmarking for the future.
Head Above Water
I saw stills from this movie on @thesimplicityman and it looked awesome. This whole movie is giving peak moodboard. You’ve got an insane house with the best kitchen, Harvey Keitel in pleated shorts, and full head of hair era Billy Zane.
New to me, but in the queue.
A house for our Dream House files
We keep an ongoing file for our “dream home.” It may never happen, but I like to imagine what exactly I would want in a home if I were building it from the ground up, and notes on how we use our home, what we love, what we don't. This is an entry I keep coming back to, again and again. This “great room” is just that - GREAT.
Four Fantasy Escapes in the UK
Any reader of this newsletter knows my affinity for England. No one does a country hotel like the Brits. Bookmarking these for future vacation inspiration…
Mountain Rose Herbs
I’ve been wanting to start making my own tea blends at home, and my meal at Noma (where they create many of their own) really put me over the edge. This is my fall/winter project, and MRH seems to be the best resource.
You Are Your Own Gym
I love fitness and feeling good. My mom once told me “You’re only one workout away from a good mood,” and it really stuck with me. I don’t want to look like I spend all day in a gym, though. The solution is lots of running and bodyweight exercise. This is a program that I read about in a Marc Rebillet profile and I’m interested in learning more.
Love the new feature as well and I also would be interested to know who you read and follow here 🤙
I just got the first issue of Sablos and it has potential. Also really like WM Brown.
