Ok: what more can be said of the chocolate chip cookie? They’re a well-covered topic.
The stalwart cookie has many styles and variations. In my opinion, like restaurants, it is impossible to declare one “the best.” This recipe, however, will likely be your new favorite. I know it’s mine.
These are crispy at the edges, chewy in the middle, and anointed with just the right amount of chips. The recipe (and the technique that helps achieve that balance of crisp to chew) has been perfected by one of the better cooks I know: my mom. They are easy. Chuck it all the mixer (wet and dry ingredients all at once), turn it on, a minute or two later, you’re ready to bake.
I grew up eating these cookies. I’d help mix them (as my son does now), waiting around to lick the whisk when it was all wrapped up. When the cookies were finished, I always had more than my fair share. My mom would say, “You’re going to be sick,” to which I replied, “I want to be sick.” Nothing has changed.
Reader, let me tell you: worth it.
