Once again Brooks, I think you nailed it. What a fun read and I agree wholeheartedly with you on what makes a good coffee shop a good one. I want a real cup with a decent place to sit and talk to who I am there with. I was in a local cafe once when traveling and they had a sign posted. No WiFi, talk to each other. Love. Anyway, I think it’s also ironic that you wrote about coffee service. My wife and recently travelled to NOLA for the weekend and ate at the Bell. The service was top notch, the food great, and I love the decor. We sat next to the wall of explorers. Love their bios, btw. The experience was super and we will definitely go back. However, the one thing that would have put it over the top…. A cup of coffee to finish it off the meal😉
Thanks again though for the post and have a great weekend!
I find NYC to be curiously apathetic to good coffee. Quality espresso is hard to come by and the few good options have an experience akin to waiting in line to see the Mona Lisa.
This might be too Coffee Nerd (although I am vehemently against most natural wine so hopefully that makes me less annoying than the Charleston lot?), but I had a great time at this omakase-style coffee tasting menu cafe called Komakase in SF. I could have run to the moon after all the caffeine I drank but the thoughtfulness and attention to detail was something basically no other cafes have.
Excellent post. Any go-to coffee recommendations for making at home. We typically use Onyx, Passenger (from Lancaster, PA), La Colombe, and Devocion but are always looking to try other roasters.
I love Il Buco, a classic. Commerce Inn, from the owners of Pisellino, is still under the radar and on one of my favorite streets in the city. Gjelina has great pizza and veg. Superiority Burger (over in the Easy Village) is one of the most consistently delicious restaurants in NYC. That’s just a tiny sliver but I hope it helps!
Excellent + spot-on. I have a whole coffee list for London in this realm. Laptops should be outlawed always.
really good

We’ve been using Counter Culture or La colombe for years, as I like the richer roast they offer

Love the post! I am all about at home coffee but when traveling it’s great to have recommendations. Thank you!
Any other must expierence spots in these neighborhoods? Will be headed that way at the end of October.
