This is a story about peas.
My favorite kind of dinner starts when my wife tells me we have nothing to eat in the house. This is a challenge I love, a test of my skills as the cook of the house. It’s a responsibility I cherish, one I don’t take lightly. To feed my family well brings me great joy.
Not to worry, I assure her, I’ve built our pantry for moments like this.
And I have. Any longtime reader will know nothing gets me hot and bothered like a pantry staple.
So you won’t be surprised that when hunger beckons and the troops declare we might go hungry, I immediately think of a little mealtime saving grace. In the freezer, lurking beneath the frozen bananas and the bottled Negroni from St. John, is my secret weapon: a small bag of frozen peas.
