A look ahead

With London in the rearview

Hello, dear reader.

At the moment I’m sitting in the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse at Heathrow Airport, a bright spot in a traveler’s itinerary. The space is well appointed, there’s always a seat to be had, the WiFi is fast, and the food is delicious. I managed to avoid the streaky bacon on a roll and made the more sensible choice of overnight oats with coconut yogurt, goji berries, and almonds.

I’m just returning from a trip to London and Tangier, where I attended the aptly named Tangier Painting Holiday. We sketched and painted for several days, punctuated by walks through the meandering market, terrace lunches blanketed by dappled sunlight, and evening cocktails at the very civilized Villa Mabrouka. I was able to live out my expat fantasies - the only thing missing? Copious amounts of hashish, buckets of gin, and a vintage typewriter to write the great American novel.

The trip provided loads of inspiration, and I’ll be sharing new discoveries and notions here in the newsletter.

• I’m publishing another “In Residence,” with a deeper look at Villa Mabrouka in Tangier.

• I’ll share my favorite small hotels, why I love them, and my favorite under-the-radar stay for when you’re in London. I’ll be sharing an updated look at my favorite London shops, restaurants, and cultural excursions, as well.

• A more global look at the growing space of NA beverages, and observations from London - a city dotted with pubs on every street corner, not typically known for teetotaling. I’ll share some very exciting new brands I discovered as I meandered my way through the city.

• I’ll be publishing an “In Residence” from Palm Heights in the Grand Cayman, which we are visiting soon. It’s a buzzy spot with plenty of love from certain corners of the Instagram glitterati. I hope it lives up to the hype.

• And as always, returning home from travel brings ample ideas for the kitchen, and you can continue to expect see low-key recipes that prize simplicity, seasonality, freshness, and health.
